Alabama Camping

The state of Alabama is a terrific place to visit, known for its varied terrain of mountain ranges, beaches and National Forests and State Parks. There are many attractions in the area and opportunities to pursue the outdoor life. Camping is the ideal way to enjoy the scenery and there are numerous Alabama camping sites to enjoy.

The Blackwater Park campground is located in Walker County, close to the city of Jasper. The site is situated by the waterfront and fishing is permitted on Smith Lake, which is nearby. Hunters also come here to hunt deer and other game. There are hook up facilities for RVs, including a water and electric supply and there is an area for tents with shower and bathroom amenities. This Alabama camping spot is known for its beautiful scenery and peaceful atmosphere. The site also hosts the Blackwater Bluegrass Festival twice a year.

Buck's Pocket State Park is in another scenic location and there is a 2,000 acre reserve with hiking trails in the surrounding Appalachian Mountains. The site has picnic tables, grills, a children's playground and laundry room. Lake Guntersville is close by and has a boating launch ramp. Fishing enthusiasts use the lake, especially in the pursuit of bass and bird watchers like to spot the Bald Eagles that frequent the area.

The Frank Jackson State Park has facilities for 32 RVs and is a top destination for fishing. There is a 1,000 acre lake fed by a stream and campers cam fish or swim in the lake or enjoy a picnic on the shoreline. The RVs have spots by the water and have cable TV access and the use of the bathhouse. There are hiking trails and a boat launch ramp. Campers can also go canoeing and there is a handicap access platform for fishing. The lake is well stocked with bream, bass, crappie and catfish. This Alabama camping site hosts a competition each April for catching bass.

The DeSoto Resort State Park is a fine example of one of the larger Alabama camping locations. Accommodation includes 58 water and electricity supplied back in sites, A-Frame chalets and rustic cabins with cable TV, a fireplace, picnic table and grill. There are also spaces for tents with access to restrooms and hot showers. If campers don't feel like cooking, there is a restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are terrific views from the summit of Lookout Mountain and campers can enjoy the local hiking trails, nature center and waterfalls. The meeting rooms cater for private functions and group meetings.
