Martha Stewart
When people want to find out about a housekeeping tip or they have a crisis in the kitchen, they turn to Martha Stewart, the queen of everything to do with running a household. She is the author of countless articles and several books on the subject. She also has a successful mail order catalog business called Martha by Mail and is involved in magazines and television.
The books cover a range of subjects from general guidebooks to specific topics. Titles include Martha Stewart's Homekeeping Handbook: The Essential Guide for Everything in Your Home. This gives advice on cleaning the home and organizing it efficiently. Other books include How to Decorate, Halloween and Holidays: The Best of Martha Stewart Living. Christmas is covered on its own in The Martha Stewart Living Christmas Cookbook.
Some of the book titles are a collection of features that originate from the Martha Stewart Living magazine. This is a monthly publication and it was partnered by the TV show of the same name. Stewart presented the show from 1993 until 2005 and the magazine and television versions both won awards. The show was replaced by another show in which Martha Stewart is the host. Simply called Martha, it is a daytime talk show with celebrity guests. The focus is still on the domestic arts and there are features on home decor, gardening and cooking.
This successful career came about as a result of the catering business that she formed with a friend in 1976. The company was successful in catering for high profile clients and Stewart decided to produce a book, based on recipes that she had used in the parties. The book was called Entertaining and it became a best seller.
The domestic guru is extremely versatile and she likes to find new channels for her creativity. She has designed a 2007 line for Macy's department store in cookware, bedding and dinnerware. Her company, called Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia is involved in publishing, television and radio production and DVDs. There is also a successful line in merchandising, sold through Kmart and Sears Canada stores. The products include interior paint and furniture. A new range of paint was launched in April 2007, called Martha Stewart Colors.
Stewart has also become involved in wine production, lending her name to a range called Martha Stewart Vintage. The wines include a Chardonnay, a Cabernet Sauvignon and a Merlot. The Omnimedia Company has also entered the fresh and frozen food market.
