Marine Corps Drill Instructors For two hundred and thirty one years, Marine Corps drill instructors have been training the ever elite and disciplined marines that proudly protect our country. When they say the few, the proud, the Marines - it is 100% correct. They are definitely proud, and they deserve it. Ask any Marine about his drill instructor, and they will probably be able to describe that person no matter how many years have gone by. My father, who saw combat time in Vietnam, still frowns when he talks about his Marine Corps drill instructor. He says that he'll never forget his name or the values and training that he had instilled in him. The job of these feared Marine Corps drill instructors is to take these normal civilians, and turn them into the proud Marines that leave boot camp. Their mere presence can make the most lax of individuals stand to sudden attention. One would have to wonder if the Marine Corps drill instructors ever smile. I can assure you that they do. But, they all know that their job is not all fun and games. It is their job to teach these Marines how to serve, protect and survive. It is their job to teach the recruits what honor and integrity really means. Their own dedication to duty and their country serves as an inspiration to those who are just starting to be sculpted into the elite Marines that we see standing so proudly and seriously. Anyone in the military knows that the Marine Corps drill instructors are the most feared in the corps. No one wants to challenge or cross them. When you watch military movies and see the drill instructors screaming in their recruits faces, that isn't just Hollywood portraying that. That is their artform and their everyday way of instilling fear and discipline into those individuals. It is the responsibility of the Marine Corps drill instructors to exemplify leadership to all that are in their presence. They ensure that the importance of duty, honor and dedication to their team is instilled in every single person that graduates from boot camp and becomes a Marine. When recruits are falling into formation, the Marine Corps drill instructor doesn't need to say a word. He drifts sternly into their eyesight and you see every single recruit stand taller and stiffer. The drill instructor's mere presence demands respect and fear. No one wants to disappoint him. The drill instructors see thousands of recruits come and go, and turn into proud Marines. They may not remember all of them by a name or face, but every single Marine knows that he or she owes their values and dedication to their drill instructor. None of them will ever forget the name of their Marine Corps drill instructor. |
