Space Suits Stop for a moment and imagine what it would be like to travel beyond the earth's atmosphere. Few brave men and women have already done this, and I'm sure they have great tales to tell. But just imagine what you'd see, how you'd feel and what your surroundings would be like. There would have to be a certain vulnerability involved. As we all know, the human body cannot survive out there without high-tech space suits, oxygen tanks and proper equipment. I can only ponder how frightening it must be, and yet how exciting at the same time. If only we all had the opportunity to travel into outer space at least once. A little organization known as NASA works very hard to further space technology. The tools we use to see things from down here, the devices we place up there, and the machines we use to travel to far off worlds are constantly being upgraded. This definitely goes the same for space suits. These remarkable get-ups make it feasible for mere man to set foot outside of a space shuttle. It's harsh to think what would happen if astronauts didn't have such advanced suits protecting them. Things could get pretty hairy and quick. The human body would go into complete shock. After all, there is no air up there. Organs would fail, blood vessels would constrict, and the mind would be useless. Most likely you'd be deceased within seconds. Not a pretty picture. On the other hand, with space suits the human body does fine. The suit itself is like an entirely separate habitat. It offers the astronaut everything he/she needs to function normally. Oh, and did I mention the extreme temperatures? If you're not frozen in outer space, you'd be fried by the sun without a regulation space suit. It's all about the extremes up there. It's imperative to remember, although outer space appears gorgeous to us, it's not suited for humans at all. Thank God for planet earth. There's no doubt that a single planet was created just for humans. It's the only one perfectly tailored for our species. You may have to dress up in space suits to travel beyond our earth's atmosphere, but you can sure enjoy life to the fullest down here without advanced attire. I'll stick to my telescope and a pair of blue jeans. |
