Postage Stamp

Whenever you put something in the mail, you know you have to have a postage stamp attached. I recently sent a stack of letters to the post office with my husband, and asked him to put them in the mail for me. Though there are some post offices that will run a stack of letters through a machine for you, the clerk simply handed him a pile of stamps and he had to affix them himself. Some of the letters were going overseas, and I pointed them out to him. These letters need to have a different postage stamp than the others. However, apparently I overlooked one because a letter was just returned to me today.

When it went down to get my mail, I noticed that one of my letters had been returned, and I didn't understand why. I looked at the postage stamp and saw that it had been canceled, but there was a small note on the letter saying it was returned because of postage. I looked at who the letter was addressed to, and I noticed that it was a friend in England. This was the letter I forgot to tell my husband about, and he forgot to get the proper postage stamp to send it to England. This was my fault though, as I am guessing he did not know the difference.

Now I wonder what I should do. Because the postage stamp was canceled, I wonder if I will have to pay the postage all over again. I realized that there was not enough on there, but will I have to pay for the stamp all over again? I guess the only way to find out is to go back to the post office and ask. I would hope that I could just buy a postage stamp to pay the difference, but I have no idea what is going to happen when I get there.

I guess buying a new postage stamp will not break me. I know they do not cost very much, but perhaps it is just the principle of the thing. I wish they had not canceled the stamp so that I could have used it. I know postage does not cost a lot, but when you added up, it can cost a lot to mail things when you have friends around the world. I guess from now on when I have things I must mail to people on the other side of the world I should just make sure I go to the post office myself to make sure the correct postage stamp is put on each letter.
