Online Auctions There's no disputing the fact that we all like to buy things. It seems a bit odd, but we even want to purchase things we can't afford. Okay, that's not really so odd after all. It's natural to want endless material possessions, right? Either way, many of us do! We're "stuff" collectors as George Carlin calls us. We accumulate masses of stuff as the years pass by. Now, the question at-hand is where are you getting your stuff from? In the past this was a simple question to answer. There were only so many places you could turn to. Let's see, you had the local shopping malls, factory outlets, and catalogs. I think that pretty much sums it up. Fortunately things have changed. Welcome to the era of online auctions! Acquiring that rare collectible is now feasible, and you can do it from the convenience of your couch. On a serious note, I have no idea how I used to get along before computers, high-speed Internet and online auctions. You see, I am a knife collector. I live for custom cutlery. Now, in the past there really wasn't a great deal to pick from. You had maybe a few good knife makers. But now there are countless custom makers out there. And the best part is that they're all online. It's a cinch to jump into cyberspace and browse through their website. But that's not all. There are online auctions just for knife geeks like myself. One of my absolute favorite websites is knifeforums.com. You can take a gander at the "knives for sale" page and find all sorts of blades. And the best part is that they're sold by folks like you and me. They aren't typically dealers or makers. They're merely collectors who've decided to auction off a few custom knives so they can afford few new ones. This means you're likely to purchase a mint condition piece of cutlery for well under the retail price. Now that's what I call shopping. Retail is no longer all there is. I don't care what you're into; chances are you'll find it sorting through online auctions. Computers, video games, electronics galore, toys, books, DVDs, sports equipment, tools, it doesn't really matter. All of it can be accessed on the web, and without a retail price tag. Hop online and see what I mean. If you're not sure where to begin, you can always start with trusty EBay. There's a lot of "STUFF" out there waiting. |
