Leather Furniture

There are a lot of people who would have the belief that owning leather furniture is something that everyone should strive for. I am not saying that leather furniture does not look good, but I find that it is highly impractical. Perhaps this is because I have two cats wandering around my house, and they are always looking for something new to sink their claws into. When I shop for furniture, I do notice that some leather items look very good, but I very much doubt I will ever buy any.

Probably the most unappealing aspect of leather furniture is the price. Many people think that leather is very durable and last for a very long time, but I have my doubts about this. I do not own any leather furniture, but I have owned many other things that were made of leather. I have found that leather is only as good as you want to be. If you do not have the time to properly care for it, it is going to go bad within a matter of months. Some will say that caring for leather furniture is easy, but I really do not believe this.

One of my prior landlords had leather furniture. She was not only my landlord, she was also my best friend's mother. I spent a lot of time at her house, I noticed that her furniture was in serious need of repair. She told me that she had only had her couch for three years when cracks started to form in the back. Even though she had paid a lot of money for this leather furniture, it lasted her only three years before she decided it was not a good investment. She, like many other people, simply did not have the time to care for it.

If you like the look of leather furniture there is no reason why you should not have it. You just have to make time to care for it. Things such as cold, dry weather can affect the quality of your furniture. Some leather is made to the maintenance free, but for the most part, it needs tender loving care. If you do not have time to inspect and baby your furniture all the time, perhaps leather furniture is not for you. If the boots, jackets, and other items I have had in the past are any indication, leather is not as durable as they would like you to believe.
