Electric Fan

Everyone I know has air conditioning in their homes. We live where we get all four seasons, but the summer can be unbearably hot. Air conditioning is a wonderful thing, and I do have a unit I can use in my bedroom. However, I refuse to use it most of the time and I opt for the electric fan. Though the fan is cheaper than the air conditioning that is not the main reason why I feel this way. There are some benefits to using an electric fan that I can't seem to give up very easily.

I always put the electric fan in my window at night when I go to sleep. I don't do that in the winter, of course, but I do use it when the weather is warm. There are nights when it is technically too cold out to use the electric fan, and my husband will complain on these nights. I like to be in a cold room when I am sleeping, and I like to cuddle up under the blankets. That is just the way I am. He has grown used to it, though there are still mornings when he gives me grief about how cold it is in our room.

Though the air conditioner does a good job of cooling off my bedroom, I still would rather use the electric fan. For one thing, I need the constant noise to fall asleep. It is almost like having a white noise machine without having to pay for one. I also like that the electric fan helps pull in fresh air. This is the biggest bonus. The air conditioner seems to recycle the same stale air, and you can definitely notice that the air seems to be limp. The small odors that are common in the home don't get cleared out, and that can make the room less enjoyable.

Though there are downfalls to using an electric fan, there isn't much anyone can do to talk me out of it. I love my fan, and I will probably always have one in my home, even if I end up with central air. They do not cost very much, they work like a dream, and they are something that I have always had. Perhaps my love of the electric fan comes from the fact that I have always used one, but that doesn't change how I feel about them. Until the air conditioner can mimic the benefits, I am going to stick with the electric fan.
